In 2007, the Indianapolis RC Modelers club wanted to have an event that would introduce our club, and
our hobby to the community, and at the same time have a very positive impact. The nearby town of Morristown, Indiana had,
for years, put on their Derby Days Event, a weekend of fun that included a fish fry, a midway, a parade, music, food, etc. and
culminated in a sanctioned soap box derby race held on Saturday. It was decided that our club would participate in the festivities
with a display on the midway, a float in Saturday's parade, and an Air Show on Sunday afternoon. Our float was a BIG
hit in the parade, and Sunday's air show was an unqualified success! HUNDREDS of spectators were treated to thrills
and chills in the air show. We also gave anyone that was interested, an opportunity to try their hand a actually flying
a model plane!!! The smiles on the kid's faces was priceless.
Plans are in place to have the
2008 event to be even bigger and better than our inaugural event. We've added new flight demonstrations, more flight simulators,
food and drinks, more opportunities for new guys to try their hand at flying a model airplane!
